Your Nervous System and Your Brain
Imagine if you touch something hot and it began to pain. What if you weren't able to remove your hand from the hot source? This is what would happen to a person who doesn't have a nervous system. A nervous system is the path, route, road or highway (whichever makes sense to you) to your brain. As you know, the brain is the boss of your body and controls whatever you do. The roll that the nervous system plays is crucial, but it's pretty simple: if you put your hand near a flame, you feel the heat. This triggers the nervous system, which instantaneously sends a message to your brain saying, "Watch out! That flame is hot!" Then, your brain acts: it sends a message back to your hand and tells it "Don't touch that flame!" And the really cool thing is that it all happens in less than a second.
